In celebration of its 100 year anniversary, The Garfield Park Conservatory began a renovation of its 28,000 SF nationally recognized facility. SFA was chosen to restore, renovate and design an addition to the Conservatory. The work was divided into two phases: the renovation and restoration of The Palm House and the renovation, addition and planning of The Sweet House. The Conservatory acts as both a recreational and educational space for the Chicago Community. Both The Palm House and The Sweet Garden host a multitude of educational curriculum, hands-on learning exhibits and civic education programs.

In compliment to The Sweet House addition, the design team aided in the creation of the House's current exhibit: Sugar from the Sun: The Story of How Plants Use Sunlight to Build Life. The house and exhibit were planned to highlight the pervious stone, lush foliage and signage that aids in the teaching of photoshynthesis to all types of visitors.

SFA Architects, the parent company of PDT Architects, provided the following services for the Chicago Park District: Architectural, master planning, concept design, historical analysis, structural analysis, conservatory design, mechanical, electrical, life safety engineering for exterior/interior alterations and renovations, construction administration and exhibit design.
